Week Two Reflection

This week I've struggled with the idea of narrowing down my action research topics. I had a hard time deciding which would be best for me, even with my site supervisor's feedback. I finally decided to stick with the one that I'd originally planned to focus on, which is improving my students' reading levels. She expressed concern previously about the need for school wide test scores to improve, particularly reading scores, and I just felt that it would be most beneficial for me to include my personal classroom needs with my action research project. I hope to be very successful with this particular wondering so that I may share my findings with my team and other staff members of the school.
Thankfully, this week's assignments allowed me to explore different areas in which I could possibly research and provided a greater understanding of the importance of research. I truly feel that I've chosen a topic that is most suitable to me.

  1. Did you decide how you would approach this task? It seems to be a difficult assignment but I think with support from your site supervisor and colleagues your goal can be achieved. Will there be some reading intervention classes to help the low readers? I wish you the best.

  2. I agree that it will be somewhat difficult, but I plan to incorporate activities using desktop computers, my Smartboard will help with whole group instruction, and my principal is making sure that I have frequent access to the mobile laptop cart that will provide each student with a laptop to work with. I'll gear students toward activities that are appropriate for their level. My principal seems very excited and supportive of my idea. Thanks!

  3. Hi Jamie! Will you be comparing last year's scores with this year's? How many students will you have? Sounds like you are fortunate to have the tools and support you need. If your school has Channel One, I think they will have a Smartboard program this year.

  4. I will take into consideration using last year's scores for state testing, but I will level them using literacy text levels and we also have district testing at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. Our school is new, and we are fortunate to have these things. We're so thankful!
